Redwood Robotics is a middle school student run organization built on a foundation of teamwork, perseverance, and love of robotics. All the students here are extremely dedicated and hardworking. In just 2 short years, we have grown into a club that not only strives to be better, but extends a helping hand to those in need of it. In the following years, we hope that what started as a small after-school group will continue to improve and thrive as the cycle of old members teaching new members continues. Although this club is great in many ways, we are still working on encouraging girls to get involved in STEM. Right now, the club is almost even in terms of girls and boys; however, it wasn't always this way. This essay is the story of the girls in our team gaining confidence and experience in STEM. Over our years as part of a VEX team, we have seen attitudes change towards women in STEM, and we fully support the Girl Powered Initiative. Although this is written in a first person point of view, it encompasses the experiences that the girls on our team have been through, and is hopefully representative of girls all over the world. Enjoy!
