The part I created for the "Make It Real CAD Engineering Challenge" is a license plateholder. The holder allows for easy switching between different color license plates (blue to red orvice versa). By using this holder, teams no longer have to scramble to switch the license plateson their bots before the next match; instead, they slide the old license plate upward and drop inthe new one. This system is far more efficient, and time-friendly as teams no longer have toworry about losing screws or nuts in the frenzy of unscrewing old plates and bolting on newplates. The holder can be placed anywhere, and in any orientation on the robot where a regularlicense plate can be held, the holder is just 20 mm longer and less than 2 mm thicker than thelicense plate. The use case for this part would also be extremely high as it has no drawbacks andsaves teams much needed times during a competition. To create this part, I used Fusion 360 version 2.0.7036, so first, I began by downloadingthe cad file for the VEX VRC license plate from the vex online store. Then I built the licenseplate holder around the license plate cad file, making sure that I wouldn't obstruct any letters ornumbers that may be placed on the plate. I then created an opening at the top of the holder; thisallowed for the smooth sliding of plates. I also made sure to give the license plate ample room soit would not get scratched while being inserted or removed from the holder. Then I added twoplanes on either side of the holder and added screw holes that were identical to the holes foundon other VEX VRC products.I learned how to make items using cad in this project successfully, I can see myself usingthis software to create a personalized phone case. By being able to create a personalized case Ican build it to my exact specifications such as creating an ultra slim bumper case with my namespelled out on the sides of the case. This software will be useful to my competitive robotics teamas it allows us to visualize and simulate stress points on the bot that may break in competition. However, I do not see myself using 3D design software to help me in my career path as I want topursue becoming a hardware engineer.
