"Thinking Outside The Box" Photography Challenge
Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is global and most of us are practicing social distancing to help flatten the curve, that leaves many of us with a lot of downtime or finding unique ways to accomplish a goal. With school or activities being hybrid, virtual, or in-person, we wanted to come up with a new photography challenge for this season.
Take some time to focus your mind and attention on some photo projects that can help you become a better photographer and to think outside the box. Part of becoming an improved photographer is understanding how to challenge yourself to put the skills you already have to the test and acquire new skills that will allow you to expand your boundaries as a photographer and a member of the VEX community.
With this challenge, you will not travel to far-off locations to find material worthy of a photo. We want you to submit a photo of something or someone in your everyday life that reminds you of your experience with VEX Robotics and why. Compose a photo that conveys an emotion, specifically the feeling you experience when you are reminded of the season’s before and what you love most.
We are unaware of what will occur next. However, Vex Robotics teaches us that if we can adapt to problems in a match, we can adapt everywhere else too. The joy of participating in robotics unites us. The memorabilia and game objects presented symbolize how we have taken existing knowledge and used it to adjust to current situations. They are purposely placed behind the laptop to show our past experiences in Vex Robotics. In the center, a video call displayed on a computer represents our future and the excitement of the unknown.
The picture above shows the first time of our scoring while practicing on the practice field. At that time, we were testing our manual driving for the first competition we've ever met. We spent a long time on preparing, include coding. Just at the moment While scoring, we were extremely exhilarated, because it is the first scoring while beginning, and it was stunning.
Our first experience of the VEX Robotics Competition was amazingly impressive. Even though we didn’t win any award and ranked last place, we did gain a lot of knowledge and “treasure”. This was our very beginning of the arduous trek; we will endeavor to overcome all the plights that impede us to win a victory which originally belongs to us. We are going to devote all our effort into the VEX Robotics Competition by the most sincere attitude, through the most active participant and the most zestful heart. We believe that the harder we work, the more we...
This was the first time we joined the VEX competition which took place in AST. We still remembered how exuberant we were at that time. At first we entered the field, we were amazed by so many robots and teams gathered at the same place. Since we didn’t have any idea of the competition process, we followed our coach’s instructions to check in. We still felt strange to the environment and everything we met. However, after a few practices, we began to get used to how the competition works and we learned to concentrate on our tasks. Even though we didn’t get good results, we...
During the first competition for me at American School in Taichung, I am a fresh men with lot of question and curious,I don`t know what I should do when the practice competion starting, after facing more competition, I exactly know what I should do at the competition and how could help the driver during the qualification and Eliminated competition.
98577A, Team Pelican. Photo of our first coach, first logo, first motto. When I get frustrated sometimes, I think of our robotics team and our motto, Pel-I-Can! It helps me remember how challenging things can be, but with practice, teamwork, and "grit", it can be done.
What are the Keys to Success?
Screws are the building blocks of any robot. However, they will only turn if you have the right bit, the same way that locks will only turn if you have the right key. In order to take advantage of the power of screws, we adopt a variety of bits during building in order to help manifest our designs into real life.
This is a picture of our robot. We have rebuilt it several times and this is our end result. Our robot has been something that we have struggled with for a very long time. The team is almost all new to robotics so really have to improvise with what we have. So me and my friend Ewen who did robotics last year have been working on the robot nonstop trying to clean it all up. The wheelbase was definitely the easiest part and we had no struggles with that. The claw on the other hand has not been working at all. Although we still have a long way to go we are still making progress on the...
214D, 214E, 214F, and 214G all have different stages of robot designs. 214E is still on the process of building to get a claw on their robot, so they will be able to pick up a riser. 214D and 214F are all on the process of having the robot pick up a riser to score points on the field. 214G is on the process of getting the claw built and ready for them to score points on the field.
What I see in this picture is the struggle of getting all the risers in the scoring zones in the small amount of time that we have. This shows how stressful it is to drive in a vex IQ tournament. If you are a driver you need to be extremely focused on driving and you need to also be good at communicating with the other drivers on the other team. If you are a builder you need to make a robot that is to the drivers liking because if the drivers can’t use the robot correctly then you won’t win competitions. There are also other stressful things in a competition...
“Love what you do so that you do what you love”
Because of that, you must show your love for the work that you do. So that you can bring out the best work and well-being with the team during the work. It is one of the very important factors for taking out a good job and not feeling bored while doing the work. So if you asked me what you need at the end, I will tell you look at the first word “Love”.
There are many challenges at VEX Robotics Competition every season
In 2017 season, We faced some challenges in StarStruck challenge, but we were able to pass them by the effective communications, teamwork , discussion and respect. We are looking forward to introduce the best all the time
It is courageous for the elders to compete in their fields and even triumph over them
This is what the ROBOPOWER team did in the ROBOT Challenge, where 4 team members represented Egypt in China. Despite the lack of the available materials, the team managed to get the first prize of handmade robots category competition,. Although their young age, they were able to win by the determination and the great work.
Among the popular proverbs spread in Egypt is that whoever finds and who sows a harvest.
This phrase sums up what ROBOPOWER team did to build the robot. Imagine with us a team that have limited financial support, what could be done! With all these obstacles, ROBOPOWER’s robot, with all the meanings of persistence and determination, was able to get the first place of Egypt, qualified to represent Egypt at the World Championship
in USA, and obtained the Inspire Award.
My sister Juliana (on the left) and I (on the right) are a middle school team. Our team number is 64811J. Our team name is Jellyfish. This is our organization's first year in robotics. I am in 8th grade and Juliana is in 7th grade. Our main goal is to have fun. I am the builder/notebooker. Juliana is the driver/coder. We built a tray robot with an intake on the lift and at the bottom, there are 2 intakes connected to the drive train right in front of the wheels. We laugh a lot during competitions and other things, even when we...
Despite the Corona Virus, and the world's closure to prevent the spread of the disease, the competition of the last season (tower takeover) was canceled, but ROBOPOWER team took the precautions and did not stop their work. We love working on VEX robots, so we took preventive measures and started working to get a place at the national competition that year, and, fortunately, we won the excellence award.
“Only we can do a little, together we can do a lot.”
There must be leadership within the team to be able to manage processes successfully. None of us can achieve success by working alone, so team cooperation with each other is the beginning of success.
The big team is the one who active all of its members in order to carry out the tasks, whether they are boys or girls. There is no so-called separation in the tasks according to the gender.
Since girls have large roles in many fields, the ROBOPOWER team divided all the tasks and the robot design among all team members equally. So, if the robot crashes in any match, the whole team could fix the problem and make a great improvement in a short time and high professionalism.
●Despite the Corona Virus, and the world's closure to prevent the spread of the disease, the Robopower team took the precautions and did not stop their work. We love working on VEX robots, we took preventive measures and start working to get a place at the world championship this year.
●There is no success without mastery, even if the capabilities are weak, but with your mastery of your work and your insistence on achieving your goal, you would succeed. The possibilities were weak, but we succeeded with our determination and mastery to create a strong robot and perform the tasks in a professional manner.
We often listen to ‘Cooperation’ word and its synonyms, but we rarely see its application on the ground. But in ROBOPOWER team, the photo describes the cooperation between our team member. We could see the perseverance to overcome challenges and see the calm in their thoughts and problem solving. ‘It’s easy to get to the top, but it is hard to maintain.
