International Robotics Honors Society Service Award Challenge Sponsored by The REC Foundation
NEW for the 2020-2021 Season
The International Robotics Honor Society Service Award will be presented to an IRHS High School Chapter which best demonstrates how Service – Learning has impacted both their program and the community in which they serve. Submissions will demonstrate how the selected problem focused project/projects have advanced their program/curriculum goals and will include student reflections on the IRHS aspects of Academics, Service, Character, Robotics and Leadership.

The winning chapter will recieve Online Challenge Award for Service Trophy and automatic team qualification to the current season’s VEX World Championship or RAD Championship if chapter competes in VRC/ VEX AI or RAD program.
All approved, current, active high school chapters of the International Robotics Honor Society.
These are the minimum requirements for this challenge. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements will result in your entry being disqualified from advancing to Finalist.
- Create a digital portfolio using either Book Creator or Google Sites that showcases the work that the chapter has accomplished in the last year.
- At the beginning of your portfolio there should be a credits section, which includes the name of the entrant or entrants, the name of the IRHS Chapter, City /State/ Country and the title of the Project.
- Portfolio components need to include a description of the problem focused service-learning project/projects that were selected.
- A statement that verifies the successful completion of the project by a school administrator.
- Reflection statements from the students in the chapter who conducted the service.
- Evidence of the celebration that took place with the students and possibly with the community at the completion of the service.
- The portfolio must include combinations of text, images, audio and video to share the story of the impact of the Service on both the students in the IRHS chapter and the community.
- Only one submission per currently registered, active and approved chapter.
- Work submitted in previous or different Online Challenges may not be repurposed for this submission.
The “Judging Information” section below will provide additional guidance on how your project will be evaluated.

- Instructions to add video link to your entry:
- Click the green Enter Challenge button on the right side of the screen.
- Fill out the submission form and type your text in the Full Description box according to the Requirements for this challenge.
- Click Save.
- Click the blue Links/Videos button in the upper right of the screen.
- Type in the URL, Title and Description. Include all required information, or your link may not display correctly.
- Click Add Link.
- Your submission will now show when you click the blue All Entries button to view the challenge entries.
Judges will select 5 finalists and will take community-voting results into account in making the final selections. The finalists will be reviewed by an additional panel of pre-selected professionals, and those scores will be combined with the initial scores to determine the winners of this Online Challenge.
The judges will evaluate and score each entry as follows:
Up to 5 points for student team member(s) creating and producing the video*
Up to 25 points for a well-structured, complete story with quality supporting imagery. Does the clearly tell a clear story of the problem-based project selected?
15 points for a statement from a school administrator verifying the successful completion of the project. No points awarded if statement is not provided but submission will not be DQ’d.
Up to 25 points for the content that provides each student’s individual reflections. Different formats (written, video, etc.) are accepted.
Up to 10 points for evidence of the celebration that took place with the students and possibly with the community at the completion of the service.
Up to 10 points for a digital portfolio that has several different formats of documentation. Judging will be looking for variety as well as quality of submission.
Up to 15 points for a digital portfolio that presents a strong overall effort on behalf of the entire IRHS chapter.
*Students should be the sole creators of this submission. It is acceptable for adults to assist with downloading any necessary resources or submitting the story where students may need permission.
