VEX IQ Challenge STEM Research Project Sponsored by The REC Foundation
The focus for the VEX IQ Challenge is to have students learn about the relationship among the STEM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Each season one of the fields is featured, providing students with an opportunity to learn more about how it relates to robotics and how what they are learning in the classroom has a practical application in their lives.
This season the STEM research project will feature technology, with a specific focus on sensors. Technology is the branch of knowledge that focuses on practical purposes in life. It is the machinery and equipment that is developed using engineering. Sensors are electronic components that produce an output by detecting changes in its environment. It produces a signal notifying the user to the changes that have been detected. Gyro Ultrasonic Range Finder, Color Sensor, Touch LED, Bumper Switch are the sensors that are featured in the VEX IQ Challenge program.

Helping to Improve the Quality of Life for...
This device will help to improve the quality of life for colorblind people by sensing the color of an object and turning it into an audible signal. This will help colorblind people to socialize in scenerios such as game playing.

One Degree North Jr - How can sensors be used to...
This is our STEM Project about the use of sensors; specifically infrared. We first define the problem of electrical fires and then specify a solution that is available. This project is supposed to both make the viewer informed, and make them think deeply about the potential solutions to the problem. We also come up with our own potential solution to the problem that is to integrate the sensors into the circuit itself. Our solution is much more useful than the sensors that are available on the market right now.

45009A - Big Hero 2: Hello I am Baymax 2000
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009A - Big Hero 2!
We believe that if we design a robot that can dispense, hold medication, detect, and help with emotional well being. As well as to document and report health issues, keeping a medication schedule will become a tool for people and children with Tourette's Syndrome. We overall wanted to create a tool with the help of sensors to ensure that they live a normal as possible life. We took the process of the scientific method and the engineering design process to complete this...

45009B - Beautiful Blossoms: Dirt on Road? Which...
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009B - The Beautiful Blossoms!
Many people are unable to drive for various reasons, including medical conditions and physical conditions. Many sensors are being used in cars to improve safety. Color sensors can detect the color of an object and follow colored lines. A color sensor was attached to a robot and programmed to follow red, green, and blue lines. The distance traveled by the robot was measured when the colored tapes were 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% covered by brown pieces of paper (representing dirt and trash...
45009D - Smarties: Walker with Sensors
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009D - The Smarties!
We created a prototype of a walker with sensors so that we can detect anything that could be dangerous to someone using the walker.
45009G - The SIX Trio: A Helpful Foot Orthosis
Hello, we are team 45009G - The SIX Trio!
We designed, build, and tested a foot orthosis for a patient with Cerebral Palsy (CP) with 2 sensors testing out both sensors individually to test and graph data of which one was programmed easier, reacted faster, and which one, in general, helped the patient with Cerebral Palsy better.
45009K - JEC3: Helping the Elderly
Hello we are team 45009K - JEC3!
We design a robot to help the elderly on taking out the trash, with this robot it can also help their mental health. We designed it to be easy to learn and maneuver.
45009N - RoboGirls: R.O.M Brace Prototype
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009N - The RoboGirls!
We develop a brace that goes along the arm and stops at the chest area. The sensors go on the chest and the blood monitor bracelet is worn on the wrist. Our brace involves sensors and those sensors help us see when the person has a stroke. They will sense any unusual activity and send a signal or alarm. We also use a blood pressure monitor to sense high or low blood pressure.
45009P - The Phoenixes: Sensors with Physics and...
Hello, we are team 45009P- The Phoenixes!
We have build a robot with sensors. The robot was set to pick up different shaped objects and move through different types of surfaces.
45009R - Golden Dragons: Robotic Companion
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009R - The Golden Dragons!
With the pandemic going on we have developed a Companion for people in hospitals.
45009S - The Bandits: Robotics Arm
Hello Everyone! We are team 45009S - The Bandits!
We are from the Young Women's Leadership Academy and we present to you the 2021 STEM Research Project!
45009T - The Intellitrons: The Intelligent Baby...
Hello! We are team 45009T- The Intellitrons!
The intelligent baby walker- a baby walker that avoids collision with obstacles using 2 bumper switches and 2 distance sensors. The baby walker uses 2 distance sensors to detect a wall and back up, the same happens with the bumper switch sensors when they hit for example a corner of the wall. The baby walker self is built from PVC and it's safe for a real baby to use.
45009W - TechGirls: TTR
Hello! We are team 45009W - TechGirls!
Due to the pandemic situation, we designed a robot that takes a person's temperature, because when a person takes people's temperature that can spread germs so we made the TTR.
45009X - TechTrio: RecyleBot!
Hello! We are team 45009X- TechTrio!
We all are aware of the problem of how much trash is being littered. As we want to help the environment we built this robot! Our robot can pick up aluminum cans and has a place for them to be while it collects more.

45009Y - Double RC: How Sensors Can Improve...
Hello, we are team 45009Y- Double RC!
For our STEM Research Project, we tested VEX IQ sensors on a robotic hand to see which sensor allows the user to have complete control over the robotic hand.

Sensor Development in Cars
We are team ARC Bots 1073W from Albury and this is our STEM Project for the VEX IQ Challenge - Rise Above... How has the development of sensor technology improved the evolution of cars?

11900A-Airlines Keeping Us Safe from COVID
Our STEM Research project is about how airlines are using sensors to protect their passengers from getting COVID. First, we researched all of the ways that STEM industries use sensors. We thought of airlines because our sponsor is Allegiant Air, and the engineers met with us earlier this year. We focused our research and project around sensors in airlines and how airlines are keeping us safe from COVID.
First we researched three airlines, how they use sensors, and how they are protecting us from COVID. After our research, we came up with a...
Motor Claws-VEX IQ Challenge STEM Research Project
We are team #11868C, Motor Claws, from Southridge Junior High in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We will be showing the judges about sensors the smoke detectors.

COVID Catch & Clean - by 6403G Programming...
Video demonstration of a wearable device using sensors to detect COVID particles in the air and protect the user from infection.

The Danger of Heatstroke
We are team 177B, the Girls of STEEL. We investigated thermometers and sensors and how heatstroke affects construction workers. Construction workers should wear a sensor that will alert them if their body temperature gets too high, so that they can prevent heatstroke. We looked into different options and found that Temptraq, which was originally for infants, would be a good option for construction workers to use.
