The Unite Online Challenge Sponsored by Google
The Unite Online Challenge is an opportunity for students to engage in recognizing that they have the power to make a positive difference. VEX teams can become leaders of change by making their programs more inclusive and validate that learning about STEM is more important now than ever before.
The Unite Online Challenge will be awarded to schools or organizations that demonstrates why robotics needs to be inclusive and not exclusive and what they are doing to help.
Video should promote the school or organization and how you are working to promote inclusiveness in STEM. We want to see how your teams collaborate to enrich experiences for everyone. Share with us areas identified as exclusive, your plausible solution to changing that and your vision of an inclusive future.

The Videos with the top THREE (3) scores, chosen by the judges will receive:
- Invitation to participate at VEX Worlds 2021 in Dallas, TX for up to two teams in the program
- Entrant grade range: Elementary, middle school, high school, and university students.
- VEX Robotics Competition team requirement: Must be part of a registered VEX team for the 2020-2021 season.
- Previous Online Challenge entries are not eligible for submission.
- Only one entry per school/organization team is permitted. Only one entry per team is permitted. However, each team in a multi-team school or club program may submit one entry. For example, teams 123A and 123B could each submit an entry, but team 123A could not submit two entries.
Schools and organization will submit a 3-minute video featuring their teams. This video will include a 15 second credit section at the end of the video.
- At the end of the video, there must be a credits section (no longer than 15 seconds) including:
- the name of the entrant(s)
- All team numbers for the school/organization
- The title of the video
- Youth team members need to create and produce the video. It is acceptable for adults to help with the technical aspects of creating and submitting the video, and adults are encouraged to assist in completing any task that would be difficult or inappropriate for youth in this age group.
- Post the video link directly to this online challenge site during the submission process. Links to Google Drive or Dropbox are not permitted and will result in disqualification.
- Your video must be posted to YouTube, SchoolTube, Youku, or an equivalent platform.
- Please note: you must use music in the public domain or else the platform may delete your video.
- Videos submitted in previous or other current Online Challenges are not eligible for submission.

- Instructions to add video link to your entry:
- Click the green Enter Challenge button on the right side of the screen.
- Fill out the submission form and type your text in the Full Description box according to the Requirements for this challenge.
- Click Save.
- Click the blue Links/Videos button in the upper right of the screen.
- Type in the URL, Title and Description. Include all required information, or your link may not display correctly.
- Click Add Link.
- Your submission is now listed when you click the blue All Entries button to view the challenge entries.
Judges will select 10 finalists and will take community-voting results into account in making the final selections. The finalists will be reviewed by an additional panel of pre-selected professionals, and those scores will be combined with the initial scores to determine the winners of this Online Challenge.
The judges will evaluate and score each entry as follows:
Up to 5 points for student team member(s) creating and producing the video*
Up to 10 points for clearly identifying and describing possible inclusive issues within your school/organization and offering a plausible solution for those issues.
Up to 30 points for providing a vision of inclusivity within your program(s). Scoring will be based on:
- clearly demonstrating how the school/organization is bringing people together to learn about STEM.
- providing a clear vision for the school/organization’s future.
- Demonstrating their belief of achieving their goals through diligence, perseverance and inclusiveness.
Up to 30 points for the effectively communicating your story. Scoring will be based on:
- How well the team used imagery, graphics, and effects to tell a story. Entrants may communicate verbally, via graphics, illustrations, or in writing such as cue cards, etc.
- The type of project, activity, or event that the entrants used to answer the challenge
- How engaging and well-designed was the entry?
Up to 10 points for a video that includes input from many in the program(s). Judges want to see the support of students throughout all program(s). Show how the organization is sharing resources, knowledge, and encouragement.
Up to 20 points for a well-structured, complete video that contains a clear beginning, middle, and end. The video can include graphics, photos, or special effects to support the story being told. Is your Video creative, well made with good camera work, editing and sound quality?
*Students should be the sole creators of this submission. It is acceptable for adults to assist with downloading any necessary resources or submitting the story where students may need permission.
