What is an engineering notebook? • It is the most overlooked aspect of robotics • It is one of the most important factors in a vex robotics team • It is the key to success • It is used to show accomplishments and failures of a team • It is the collaborative voice of the team that should represent all team members • It is typed or hand written IN PEN • It is a good reference for the team of where they started, how they got there, and where they are now • It should tell a story, about what you learned, what you tried, your experiences, your trials and errors, and prototypes How you make an engineering notebook and what do you put into it • Document EVERYTHING • Put tasks of what you plan to do during the meeting • Reflections of what you did/what you learned • Tables • Charts • Diagrams • “Aha Moments” Examples: • Wiring diagrams • Diagrams of motor ports • Gear configurations Remember: ▪ Be detailed ▪ Label everything ▪ Be organized Our Experience • It serves as a visual when talking to judges • It covers what is forgotten (when talking the judges or other teams) • It is the collective ideas, records, designs, and processes of the team
