High School - International Robotics Honor Society Service Award

The International Robotics Honor Society (IRHS) recognizes and celebrates students that excel in academics, robotics, personal character, and community service. Members of IRHS chapters work together to design and execute service learning projects that fulfill needs within their school or community. Entries for this challenge will demonstrate how service learning projects have impacted an IRHS High School Chapter and the community they serve.

How has helping the community helped your IRHS Chapter? Create a digital portfolio to show us how your problem-focused service learning project (or projects!) has advanced your Chapter’s program and/or curriculum goals. Include reflections from student members about the IRHS aspects of academics, service, character, robotics, and leadership to show how IRHS makes a positive impact on members and the community.

Prizes

1st: The winning chapter will receive one (1) automatic team qualification for this season's VEX Robotics World Championship, RADC World Championship, or VEX AI Championship

Eligibility

Teams must be part of a registered VRC, RECF Aerial Drones, or VEX AI high school team for the current season, and members of an approved, current, active high school chapter of the International Robotics Honor Society.

  • Only one entry per chapter is allowed.

  • Entries submitted in previous years’ Online Challenges are not eligible for submission this year.

Rules of the Challenge

Think of this as a digital portfolio. Your submission should be created using Book Creator or Google Sites, and include a combination of imagery (videos, photography, drawings, screen captures, etc.) and supporting text.

Things to keep in mind for a successful submission:

  • What was the focus of your service-learning project, and why did your Chapter select it?

  • How did your project positively impact the community?

  • How do the individual members of your IRHS Chapter feel about the project, their service, and the IRHS aspects of academics, service, character, robotics, and leadership?

  • How did you celebrate at the completion of your service? Did community members participate in the celebration?

 

Technical Details

A submission must meet these minimum requirements in order to be judged.

  1. Portfolio is created and produced solely by student team members. It is acceptable for adults to assist with downloading any necessary resources or submitting the story where students may need permission. 

  2. Format: One link to a digital portfolio created in Book Creator or Google Sites. Links to Google Drive, Dropbox, or other storage locations are not acceptable.

  3. Title Page:  Each entry must include a title page that includes

    • Tile of the project

    • Names of student entrants (using first names only is acceptable)

    • Team number and location

    • IRHS Chapter name and location

  4. Signed statement from a school administrator that verifies the successful completion of the project

 

Upload Instructions

  • Click the green Enter Challenge button on the right side of the screen.

  • Fill out the submission form and type a brief description of your challenge entry in the Full Description box.

  • Click Save.

  • Click the blue Files/Images button in the upper right of the screen.

  • Drag/drop your PDF file into the Upload a File box.

  • Edit the Display Name and file information to include your entry name and team number.

  • Save your edits and click Update on the entry screen.

  • Click the blue All Entries button to confirm that your submission is visible.

 
 

Judging Information

  • Up to 15 points for a portfolio that identities a problem-based service learning project and describes why it was selected

  • Up to 15 points for telling a clear story of the project and its impact on the community

  • Up to 15 points for reflections on IRHS and the project from multiple IRHS student members

  • Up to 15 points for evidence and details of a celebration at the end of service

  • Up to 15 points for describing a STEM role model and how this person inspires a more inclusive team/program

  • Up to 15 points for a well-structured, complete submission that uses a combination of text and supporting images to tell a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end

  • Up to 15 points for a submission that presents a strong overall effort on behalf of an entire IRHS chapter

  • Up to 15 points for the overall impact of the project, and a submission that is enjoyable to read, well designed, and engaging
