In this year's VexIQ STEM research project "Biomimicry in Engineering", Team 2952B chose the topic of mimicking sunflower following the sun in order to increase solar panel output. Together, the team learned about biomimicry through watching documentaries and reading online contents, brain stormed in a group discussion, interviewed an expert on the plant biology of sunflowers, and made a prototype that can programmatically tilt the solar panel and measure its current output. Experimental data showed that maxium output is achieved when the solar panel is perpendicular to the incoming light beam. In the end, the team summarized the project in a group presentation.
