Team ReflectionThese two figures in STEM inspire women every day to pursue their dreams in the STEM community. By educating and making profound impacts to their confidence, they ignite their ambition to succeed and go beyond what they are expected to do. Jennifer Doudna and Katherine Johnson both inspire us three by role modeling as a powerful female figure in STEM history. By providing an example for the three of us, it teaches and gives us expectations to live up to. Overall, Katherine Johnson and Jennifer Doudna are prominent figures in STEM history and inspire girls every day. Interview with Ms. Karen Bourges, science teacher at Dodson Middle SchoolExperiences: During middle school, she participated in a program called Science Olympiad. She saw this program to be very fun which caused her to want to continue with science in her career path. Ms. Bourges got two degrees in science and one in environmental conservation. She also received a masters in environmental engineering. Despite her hard work and time in her career choice, she faced discrimination after moving to France. She was qualified for many jobs in the scientific field having all those degrees, however she wasn’t able to get these jobs due to discrimination. Many people also overlooked her because of her gender.Advice: Don't let people discourage youDon't give upPursue what you loveBe proud of yourself Always surround yourself with supportive people because they always listen to you and they help you open doors.Remember that women run this planet and that women have every right to dominate the STEM community.
