It can be hard to move your lift to a certain position and stabilize it there, or drive to a particular location and stop exactly where you want to, or to make sure one motor is rotating exactly as fast as another. All these problems require some sort of control mechanism to solve, and PID controllers are perhaps the most versatile and powerful type out there. In this video, we walk through the basics of setting up a PID controller, using lift position control as our example. The math behind it can seem scary, but once you grasp it, you'll have the ability to make your robot more elegant and precise.
