Calcuators have trasformed the mathematics and physics world for everyone from students to theoretical physicists. The calculator we disassembled (specifically, a TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition Graphing Calculator) contained many diverse parts from producers around the globe such as Macronix, Ilitek, and Texas Instruments.

We were surprised to learn how intricate the circuitry inside a Zilog Z-80 and other application-specific integrated circuits was. This online challenge taught us the main functions of Flash ICs, microprocessors, display screens, etc. inside a graphing calculator, and gave us a much deeper understanding of the simple-looking, yet intricate machines we use everyday.
