Vertigo is played on a 12 foot by 12 foot field consisting of two alliances on each side. Each alliance has three hoops of different size and one foam board with three different levels. The goal of the game is to shoot urchins into the hoops and onto the foam board to score points. During the autonomous period, robots will shoot their preloads into the hoops. During driver control, robots will shoot the urchins on the field onto the different levels of the board. The higher the level, the more points an alliance earns.
