VEX Photography Online Challenge

Last season marked the tenth anniversary of the VEX Robotics World Championship, and after so many years of experience, we would love to see exactly what it is that you truly love about the program. Submit a photo that best represents what you love about being involved in robotics. Use photography to tell a complete story with one photograph, focusing on your favorite aspect of VIQC, VRC or VEX U. Compose a photo that conveys an emotion, specifically the feeling you experience when you are doing what you love most.

A Step Toward Success

harveyty

The award in this photograph was given to us at our first tournament. Seeing as how our team is made mostly from newcomers who have never experienced a vex tournament made this a truly special event. This award shows our good sportsmanship and supporting actions. Obtaining this award may not seem to big a deal, but this showed us that we were succeeding in some way. Our team gave, and still does give, 200% effort in everything we do.

Culture Through Robotics

BG919311

For our team, robotics has always been about the people we meet along the way. After we qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championships, we didn't know the amount of culture we would learn at worlds. Through our alliances in matches and our pit being right next to a Bahrain team, we learned a lot about the lifestyle and culture of people. No matter the language barrier, or the age difference of the teams, we all had so much to learn from each other, both about robotics and about each others' culture.

Family

chambershope580

Being on a robotics team has not only given us multiple opportunities to gain experience in programming, building and team work, but it has given us a second family. We spend almost every day together and before each practice we like to pile in one car and go get food. Then we get straight to work on brainstorming, building and programming. I would say the intimacy we have as a team makes us more efficient in the design process and better connected at competitions.

Let the Sparks Fly

lheadlee19

This photo embodies the blazing spirit of team 3946E. It’s that rush of adrenaline, the joyous celebrations when everything comes together, that moment when the dremel hits steel that send the sparks flying. The sparks represent the passion, commitment, and invigoration among us, bright and fiery. It’s these sparks that make robotics well worth the work and leave memories that will last for years to come. Our team loves to design robots and let the sparks fly.

Puerto Rico Innovates at the Global Stage

aperezmolina.2000

One of the main reasons our team participates in the VEX Robotics Competition is the opportunity to represent our country in VEX Worlds. Thus, by obtaining a spot in Puerto Rico's VEX Robotics delegation, we can exhibit our abilities and knowledge to others, as well as exchange ideas with other robotics teams. As a result of our hard work and effort, we've had the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in VEX Worlds twice; the first time being in the Skyrise season and the second - but not last - being in the Starstruck season. For us, as Puerto Ricans, there's no greater joy...

In the Face of Defeat

m.alex028

This photo was taken after losing the third match of finals at the Daniel Hand competition. We are the three members with red hats. We had so much to look forward to, after going undefeated through qualifying and up to semifinals. We had come so close to that final goal, yet so far. However, in the face of defeat, we immediately had begun formulating the next changes, already planning what we would change to be better. We are always in a constant iterative process, and that is what I love about robotics.

Cyber Eagles :Learning Through the Struggle

amydelbusto

Groot struggled to communicate within their team and had their bot malfunction in their first two events. They struggled to find their way. Sophia, the group leader always kept calm under pressure and learned from every fail. On December 9, 2017 Groot tied for third place in a middle school competition. The hard work had paid off and the team began to soar. Their coding was improving, their driving skills were improving and the team was geling. They stuck together and had highs and lows and as the year closes out they are stronger and closer than ever.

Robotic Friends

Izzy

Friendships are born through highs, lows, and the best experiences in the world. Nothing can create better friendships than winning, or losing, a robotics competition together. I met my five closest friends through robotics and I can’t imagine my life without them or robotics. They’ve helped me through my worst and been with me at my best. A friend, by definition, is “a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard”. But isn’t friendship much more than attachment and emotional contracts. It’s the feeling of knowing that no matter...

Starting Over

marshmarks

Team 409B (my siblings) was tearing apart the King of Squids, the robot that they had been working on all year. They realized it would never win at States. They put their full effort into it and changed it many times, but the scoring system was tragically flawed.
This photograph illustrates a struggle that we all face: knowing when to get rid of the old to start again. Sentiment and prudence must be overcome in order to achieve true greatness. While it was hard to see the King of Squids go, they are excited about the promises of the future.

Man and Machine: A Unique Friendship

84927A

In Robotics, we only not form friendship with our teammates, but we also form a unique bond with our robot. We not only take care of the product of our hard work, but we even name it and learn how to rely and trust on its capabilities. This is a photo of myself with our robot Bambi, from the 2017 VEX State MS competition. Bambi fought with us till the quarterfinals. We lost, but at the end of the day, a hug from a dear friend is all that matters.

Thinking in ROBOTC

CedarWaxwing

Robots with no software are just inanimate metal objects, but software like ROBOTC brings them to life. In my opinion, coding is the better part of VEX robotics. With the help of programming, you can make the robot do anything you tell it to do, even express emotions!

Breaking Barriers

roboticsgamma

When we look at this picture again we are filled with joy and pride for having achieved a challenge that took us a long time to overcome.

It was a day of practice, nobody thought that the unexpected was going to happen; we are only 2 members of the team, because in our country in mid-December we are already on vacation. We were just playing..... and taking pictures as a fun and well we were surprised! We managed to overcome a barrier .WOW
