VEX IQ Challenge Girl Powered Online Challenge Sponsored by Google

Girl Powered is an initiative to redefine the face of STEM by creating a more inclusive environment for all students within the robotics community. Together, with the support of the entire community, we strive to encourage equal participation of young women and men in competitive robotics. We want to use this challenge to show the robotics community at large just what it means to be a Girl Powered VEX IQ Challenge team!

Things to keep in mind for a successful submission:

  • When you hear the phrase, Girl Powered, what comes to mind? How is it reflected in your team’s approach to robotics?
  • Share how your team has taken initiative to create a more inclusive environment that attracts a diverse group of students.
  • Share how each team member has tried various roles on the team (everything from designing, to building, programming, strategy, awards, etc.). Explain what you learned through this experience.
  • How do you believe diversity of perspective changes your robot design, your team chemistry, and even your ability to succeed?
  • Who is your STEM role model and why? Does this person inspire you to have a more inclusive team/program? How?

We want compelling, engaging stories that give us insight into how you’ve taken the Girl Powered initiative and incorporated it into your experience on a VEX IQ Challenge team. The benefit of having a diverse team will become apparent through your individual stories.

•The beginning of our Adventure

Hello! We are Winnetka Girl Powered 224G and we are the first all-girls robotics team at our elementary school here in Dallas, Texas. Even though none of us had any experience with designing or driving a robot, that did not stop us from wanting to form a robotics team filled with girls willing to learn and explore. We want to prove to ourselves and to the world that with hard work and dedication, we can accomplish anything!

•Why the name?

We chose Winnetka Girl...

Following Our Passion

GA_Robotics

At Greenwich Academy, we take our girl powered citizens and community very properly. We are an all-girls school and every day we thrive to do our best in school, robotics and other activities.

At GA we focus on our community and everybody around us. At our school, we have many girl-powered initiatives and focus to keep our community following the girl-powered ways. Last year our team was lucky enough to be able to attend the girl powered conference and we were immediately inspired. We came back to Connecticut inspired and ready to take what we learned...

EBS Robotics, from the East Barnet School, was in the past dominated my male members from its inception in late 2011.

This soon changed when our mentors and role models, VEX Impact, became the first all girl robotics team in way back in 2012. A first for a mixed north london comprehensive school.

Since this time much has changed within EBS Robotics. A new generation of young female engineers are taking the stage and they are extremely proud to have been the change agents and mentors of many other young girls looking to take up...
